Mission
The mission of the LECOM Family Medicine Residency is to prepare residents to provide comprehensive and empathetic primary care for families in their communities, past providing progressive responsibility for patient care in a family environment through a continuum of didactic and clinical experiences throughout the residency program.
Program Overview
The primary goal of our ACGME-accredited Family Medicine Residency Program is to educate and develop family physicians who will practise in a manner that acknowledges the interdependency of mind, body, and spirit. This goal aligns with the mission statement and educational goals of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, which seeks to train physicians to practice in the osteopathic tradition. Additionally, our program strives to provide comprehensive primary care to patients in our customs, through the efforts of our residents and faculty in the two Family Medicine Practise sites in our plan, located in medically underserved areas of our community, and within a customs infirmary setting as its primary hospital site. Our program imparts to its residents a firm academic background, enabling them to advance though the ACGME competency milestones and preparing them to achieve board certification upon graduation. Finally, our program encourages its residents to participate in inquiry and life-long learning, and prepares residents with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to become teachers and leaders in the profession through their participation in one of LECOM'due south Masters Degree Programs in Medical Education, Health Services Administration, or Biomedical Ethics.
Continuity of Care Clinics
The Residency Program operates two family medicine practices for the training of our residents, each with its own on-site specialty clinics for the further enhancement of the continuity learning feel. Each heart is supervised by a board-certified family medico. The outpatient feel includes longitudinal care of approximately 400 patients per resident by the time the resident graduates. The resident volition gain outstanding experience in the outpatient management of chronic illnesses, preventive care, and child and adolescent medicine. The resident shall work a minimum of 312-half days in the continuity of care clinic with one half twenty-four hours during PGY-1, progressing to three half-days during PGY-2, and four half-days during the terminal year of residency. - Plaza 18 Medical Middle, 537 West 18th Street. This state-of-the-art facility offers 18 exam rooms, video surveillance capability, classrooms and a resident office with internet access. Specialty clinics on site include Podiatry and Behavioral Health.
- Eastside Medical Middle, 2625 Parade Street. This two-story facility has served every bit a neighborhood Family Medicine centre for 25 years. It has a well-established residency training patient base. Specialty clinics on site include OB/Gyn, Orthopedics, Podiatry and Ophthalmology.
Hospital Rotation Curriculum
Core training sites are at Millcreek Community Hospital and UPMC Hamot. Additional assigned rotations to circular-out the family medicine experience include ENT, ophthalmology, sports medicine and dermatology. Sufficient elective experiences are available within the wellness system.
The family medicine grooming program is thirty-six months in duration, and fulfills the preparation requirements for ACGME.

Instruction Programme
All residents participate in our weekly educational activity program, which includes journal social club, lath review, faculty lectures, the AMA GME Competency Program and Grand Rounds. Residents participate in one yearly in-service test as well as the certification boards held during your last six months of residency. The AOA board certified exam is offered every 6 months in conjunction with AOA and ACOFP conventions.
The hospital values the participation of its residents in hospital committee and departmental meetings. These meetings prepare the resident for agile participation in medical staff activities afterward graduation.
Residents are required to participate in scholarly activity each year. During their training, residents have the unique opportunity to earn a master's caste in Medical Teaching, Health Service Assistants or Biomedical Ethics from LECOM.
Resident Salaries and Benefits
PGY 1: $49,980
PGY ii: $51,000
PGY 3: $52,020
Holiday: Residents receive 20 days of paid leave and iii days for disease each training year. (This includes five days for CME)
Educational Allowance: Residents receive $ane,800.00 for continuing medical education which can exist used to participate in extramural educational seminars or the purchase of books, subscriptions or other scholarly materials. Residents have the ACLS Certification course at Millcreek Community Hospital, at no cost.
Free Membership to LECOM Medical Fitness & Health Center.
Relocation Allowance: Incoming residents are granted up to $one,000 relocation allowance to facilitate the motility to Erie, PA. There is a wide range of housing options in both urban and rural settings. Infirmary subsidized housing is also bachelor. The MCH staff will be happy to aid you in finding accommodations to conform y'all.
Insurance: Residents receive malpractice, medical, dental and life insurance at no cost. Medical insurance for the residents and his family is provided. A pharmaceutical plan allows prescriptions to exist filled our outpatient pharmacy at a reduced rate. Life Insurance is provided with a benefit equal to i year'southward salary.
On-Call Meals: The residents receive all meals while on-duty and while on-phone call at Millcreek Community Hospital, at no cost. Their family unit may bring together them and receive the employee discount on all meals.
Library Facilities: Millcreek Community Hospital has a well-equipped library where residents may obtain computerized literature searches and copies of articles at no accuse. The MCH Medical Library has an active interlibrary loan program through LECOM. Residents too have admission to the LECOM Learning Resource Center.
Other Benefits: Residents are provided with three lab coats each year at no accuse.
